5 Weeks

What's Evara Waves?

Evara is a wearable device that delivers alternating vibrations to both wrists to help regulate the nervous system for stress, focus, and sleep.

Problem

I needed to design a companion app for a wearable device still in development, designed in 5 weeks with while hardware specifications were still being finalzied.

Outcome

I delivered a complete app covering waveform controls, guided breathing sessions, biometric tracking, device pairing, and notifications, with the product now in active development and Evara having raised $545K, 118% above their initial goal.

Solution

Hardware in Progress

Designing alongside unfinished hardware

Biometric data the device would be capable to capture such as heart rate, heart rate variability, and respiratory rate were still being confirmed as designs moved forward. This had a direct impact on design decisions, such as the number of presets available for the MVP affected the layout of the waveform selection and tuning screens entirely.

Waveform Controls

Designed for quick, on-the-go adjustments

Since the device runs passively throughout the day, users may have to interact with the app during low-attention moments. The controls needed to be glanceable, so I designed them to be large and tactile, more like a physical remote than a settings menu. Bigger touch targets, minimal options, easy to adjust without looking too closely.

Guided Sessions

Keeping the focus on the breath

During guided breathing sessions, I recognized that showing live biometrics could have the opposite effect of what the session is trying to do. If someone is trying to calm down, watching their heart rate update in real time adds mental load, not removes it. The session screen stays focused on the breath cue only.

Visual Direction

Evoking calm through the interface

The client's reference point was the feeling of stillness and clarity that waves have when they're calm. I explored three visual directions before landing on one that used soft gradients and subtle shadows, to carry that feeling through every screen. The goal was for the app to feel calm before a session even started.

Outcome

Milestone Achieved

App prototype delivered, product in active development

The app prototype was delivered as part of Evara's 2025 milestones, alongside a completed hardware proof-of-concept and a full brand refresh. Evara closed their pre-seed at $545K, 118% above their $250K goal, and is currently opening a Momentum Round targeting $500K to fund fully integrated prototypes ahead of a planned end-of-2026 product launch.
